*As this installation is an ongoing work, Jerry Wellman will be working on site varied hours most days throughout the exhibition.

In his installations,  Jerry Wellman,  provides tools, resources, conversations, and ideas which seek to aid our ways into the future as we travel through the complications of life. The story of our time seems to land us somewhere between complete dread and pale glimmers of hope. There are urgent concerns from economy to ecology, justice and identity, divisiveness and lack of direction, along with systemic breakdowns. Still, there are hints and clues that we can all recognize, evocative signs recalled from buried places of consciousness and grace

Inspired by indications of ever present, emerging junctions, Navigators is a mythopoetic shrine/ installation with the intention to heal, make meaning and develop understanding.

Interspersed with diagrams, infograms, drawings and sculpture, images are abstracted, vaguely recognizable; little gnomic, angelic, and hidden directors, sleuths, commanders, obfuscators, enablers, confusers, spectres, sign bearers, light bearers, gatekeepers, spirit guardians, demigods, semigods and other stand-ins.  All are there as interpretive guides to help clear and show the way to a new story.

Jerry Wellman works as an artist investigating the philosophical and the poetic using installations, art actions, video, illustrated books, and performance work. He co-founded an alternative arts venue, Axle Contemporary, presenting art and social engagement projects in a converted delivery van to very diverse audiences throughout New Mexico. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited at a wide variety of venues including The Rockefeller Center, Holly Solomon Gallery, and Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York City, The Orange County Center of Contemporary Art in California, LACE in Los Angeles CA, The El Paso Museum of Art, The Visionary Museum in Baltimore MD, The Revolving Museum in Boston, 516 Arts in Albuquerque NM, The Paseo in Taos, SITE Santa Fe, Center for Contemporary Arts, and the Ellsworth Gallery in Santa Fe NM.  Awards of note include Art Matters Foundation Grant, LINE Grant, Puffin Grant, and an NEA Grant.
